Group Orders

Why was I charged for my group order meal?

If your meal costs more than your company covers, you pay the difference. Here’s when that’s billed and how to retry a payment that didn’t go through.

On this page

Your company covers part of your meal on some group orders. If the meal you pick costs more than that, the difference is called an overage, and it’s charged to your own card. For example, if your company covers $10 and you pick a $14 meal, you pay $4.

What counts as an overage

When a group order has a stipend, a note next to the menu says how much your company covers: a set dollar amount, or a share of each meal’s price. Prices over that amount show in orange. Pick one of those meals and you pay the difference. Pick a meal within the amount and you pay nothing. How do I set a meal stipend for a group order? has a video of what you see.

If you don’t have a saved card, you’re asked to add one before you pick a meal over the stipend.

When you’re charged

You aren’t charged when you pick. Every Monday, your overages are added up into a bill, and your card is charged as soon as that bill is made.

  • You’re billed for a meal only once the restaurant confirms the order.
  • Your company can limit how many meals it covers. If you’re over that meal limit, you pay full price for the extra meal.
  • A card is billed only when its overages add up to at least $2. Smaller amounts wait for a later week.
  • Each overage goes on the card you chose when you picked that meal. If you used 2 cards, each card gets its own bill.
  • If you joined the group order as a guest, without an account, you’re never charged an overage.

Where to see your bills

Open your meal calendar and go to the Account tab. Under Billing, click View Meal Selection Subsidies.

  • Overages that haven’t been billed yet are listed at the top. Click View Breakdown to see each meal, its price, the stipend, and your overage.
  • Each weekly bill shows its total, its status, and the card it went to. Click Breakdown to see the meals on it. Once a bill is paid, click Receipt to open its receipt. We also email you a copy when your card is charged.

If a payment doesn’t go through

The bill’s status changes to Payment Failed, with the reason under it, and your Account tab shows how many bills are unpaid. These options appear on the bill:

  • Retry: Same Card charges the same card again.
  • Retry: Change Card lets you choose another saved card, then charges it.
  • Retry: New Card lets you add a card, then charges it.

When the payment goes through, the bill’s status changes to Paid.
