It depends on the restaurant. Each restaurant location sets how many hours of notice it needs, and checkout tells you if your delivery or pickup time is too soon.
How notice works
If your time is too soon, checkout shows how many hours of notice the restaurant needs and when you’d have needed to order by. Pick a later date or time.
- Packages. Some packages need more notice than the restaurant usually does. The longer of the two applies.
- Larger orders. Some restaurants need more notice for a large order than for a typical one.
- Weekends. Some restaurants need orders for the coming weekend or Monday placed by Friday or Saturday afternoon. If you miss the cutoff, checkout says the restaurant can’t take last-minute orders placed on the weekend.
- Group orders. A restaurant can need less notice for a group order. Your team’s picks are due by your Group Order Deadline, so the deadline has to leave the restaurant enough notice. See How do I set up a group order?
At checkout, the date picker highlights the days the restaurant is closed or has taken off, under Restaurant Unavailable.
Other reasons an order won’t go through
Lead time isn’t the only check at checkout. These can stop an order too:
- Order minimum. Every restaurant sets a minimum food subtotal, with separate minimums for delivery and pickup. If your food subtotal is below it, checkout shows your subtotal and the minimum, so add more food before you submit.
- Same-day orders. We don’t accept orders for the same day. Pick a later date.
- Restaurant availability. If the restaurant is closed that day, outside its normal ordering hours, or a location is temporarily unable to accept orders, you won’t be able to submit until you pick a different time or location.
- Seasonal packages. Packages tied to a holiday or seasonal menu can only be ordered within that menu’s active date window.
- Stale carts. An order left sitting in your cart for more than about two months can’t be submitted. Start a new one instead.
- Team spend limits. If your organization has a 90-day spending limit set up, an order that would push your team over that limit won’t be able to submit. Reach out to support and we can help adjust it.
- Menu changes. If the restaurant changes how its menu is set up while your order is sitting in your cart, you may be asked to re-confirm your choices before you can submit.
