How do I add delivery instructions to my order?

Add notes for the driver at checkout, or save them to an address in your address book so they come with every order to that address.

On this page

Add them at checkout under Delivery Info, or save them to an address in your address book so they come with every order to that address. The restaurant sees them with your order.

Add instructions at checkout

1. At checkout, enter your delivery address under Delivery Info.

2. Click Add Delivery Instructions. It shows only for a new address, because a saved address brings its own instructions.

3. Type your notes for the driver in the box, like where to park and who to ask for. They’re saved with your order as you type.

When you place the order, a new address is added to your address book along with its instructions, so they’re filled in the next time you choose that address.

Add instructions to a saved address

When you choose a saved address at checkout, its fields are locked and Add Delivery Instructions doesn’t show. The address brings its own instructions with it. To add or change them:

  • For this order and future ones: click Edit Saved Address, fill in Delivery Instructions, and click Save. Any unsubmitted draft orders and group orders that use the address are updated too.
  • To keep your saved address as it is: click Add A New Address, fill the form from your saved address, add your instructions, and give it its own Nickname. Both versions stay in your address book.

Why are some address fields grayed out at checkout? walks through both.

You can also add instructions before you order. Click Addresses in the menu on the left of your dashboard, click Edit on an address, fill in Delivery Instructions, and click Save.

What helps a driver

  • Short notes. Some delivery services show the driver only the first few sentences.
  • Where to go. Where to park, which entrance or loading dock to use, whether there’s a buzzer or security desk, and who to ask for.
  • When your team eats. Your order arrives within a delivery window, not at an exact minute, so saying when your team plans to eat helps more than asking for a strict arrival time.
  • Plain words. English isn’t every driver’s first language, so short sentences work better than abbreviations or office nicknames.

What if…

…I’ve already placed my order? Edit the order and change the instructions under Delivery Info. The change applies to that order only. See How do I modify or update my already-placed order?

…I chose pickup? Pickup orders don’t have delivery instructions. If the pickup location has its own instructions, they show on your order details. See How does pickup work?

…my entrance is hard to find? Email support@catercow.com. We can add a photo of the entrance to your saved address for the restaurant.
