You don’t have to build a menu from scratch for each kitchen. Copy one you already have, then choose whether the copy stays linked to the original or becomes a separate menu. The video above walks through copying a menu to one kitchen and detaching it later.
Copying a menu to another kitchen
1. On your Kitchens page, click Edit Kitchen on the kitchen that needs the menu, then open the Menu tab. It lists every menu this kitchen can use, including menus set up for your whole brand.
2. Click Copy on the menu you want to copy.
3. Under Menu Name, give the copy a name.
4. Under Menu Update Options, choose how the copy relates to the original:
- Receives Updates From the original menu keeps the copy linked to it.
- Detached From Master Menu makes a fully separate menu right away.
5. Under Menu Scope, choose which kitchens get the copy: every kitchen in your brand, the kitchens in this kitchen’s group (if it’s in one), or Only This Kitchen. A copy can’t reach more kitchens than the original menu does.
6. Click Copy Menu. A linked copy shows under the original menu.
Detaching a linked copy
1. On the Menu tab, click Edit on the copy’s row.
2. Under Menu Update Options, choose Detached From Master Menu.
3. Click Save Changes. The copy keeps all of its items and now shows as its own menu.
How a linked copy works
- A linked copy starts with the original’s items. When you add, change, or remove an item on the original, the copy gets that change too.
- If the original is listed on the CaterCow marketplace, your edits wait for our menus team’s approval, and the copy picks them up once they’re live. See How do I update my menu?
- A change you make on the copy stays on the copy, so the original and your other kitchens keep their version. Once you’ve changed or removed an item on the copy, later changes to that item on the original don’t reach the copy.
- When a copy is set to one kitchen or a kitchen group, customers ordering from those kitchens see the copy instead of the original.
What if…
I want to stop a linked copy from getting updates? Detach it, as in the steps above. Detaching is permanent: a detached menu can’t be linked to the original again. A detached copy no longer takes the original’s place, so if both menus are turned on, customers at that kitchen see both.
The Copy button is grayed out? A linked copy can’t be copied again. Copy the original menu instead. A menu that we’re still importing for you can’t be copied until the import finishes.
I turn off a linked copy? Customers ordering from the kitchens it covers won’t see this menu at all. The original doesn’t take its place there.
I want a brand-new menu instead of a copy? Click Add A New Menu on the Menu tab, name it, and build it in the menu editor. If you already have the menu online, add its link under Menu URL (optional), and we’ll use it as a starting point.
