Build Your Own Taco Bars, Fajitas, and Burrito Bowls Catering

Build-your-own taco, fajita, and burrito bowl stations work well for both lunches and happy hours. The format naturally accommodates diverse dietary needs — dairy-free guests skip cheese and sour cream, gluten-free guests choose corn tortillas. With a range of proteins, toppings, and sauces, each person assembles a meal suited to their preferences.

Our Menus

Every taco bar package includes proteins, toppings, bases (tortillas and rice & beans), and sauces. When ordering, specify how you'd like to split proteins to account for vegetarians. Build-your-own burritos are not offered — they require rolling on-site and typically result in leftover tortillas. Hot and cold items ship separately to prevent sogginess.

Best Practices and Tips when Ordering Build Your Own Taco Bars, Fajitas, and Burrito Bowls

Be careful when it comes to delicious food and buffet lines. People at the front of the line will inevitably take more food, especially the proteins. For that reason, when the meal is setup, you should aim for placing the meats at the very end and starches at the front. You should also consider over-ordering for more than your actual headcount if your budget allows, especially if you have some hungry eaters on your team. Alternatively, you may want to just order some extra protein. Similarly, if guacamole is in your taco bar, you may also want to over-order, especially since some people may grab full snack portions of guac and chips. Finally, it may be a good idea to tell people what you're ordering -- as an example, we've heard stories of office managers ordering taco bar with rice and beans as a small add-on, but guests thought they could create burrito bowls, which led to the rice quickly running out!

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you need for a taco bar?

For the best taco bar, you need a variety of ingredients to satisfy everyone's diverse palates. Bases are the most obvious -- these include corn tortilla, flour tortillas, rice and beans. Note that when you go to a restaurant, some double up on the tortilla per taco so that the taco doesn't fall apart in your hand from meat juices seeping through, but this is realistically unnecessary for a taco bar since, let's be honest, most people in the buffet line aren't going to double-tortilla themselves. The next category is the meats -- carne asada steak, pollo chicken, pork like carnitas and al pastor, and vegetarian options like mixed grilled veggies and nopales cactus. If you're feeling fancy, camaron shrimp and pescado fish (although for a taco bar delivery, fried batter fish may not be the best idea since fries items get soggy during delivery). We recommend 6-8oz of protein per person to be safe, although it really depends on how hungry your eaters are. After that is toppings - shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, cilantro, diced onions, cheese, and limes. And finally the wet sauces - sour cream and a variety of salsas. Feel free to add more to your taste's desire!

How do you set up a taco bar?

In our opinion, the best way to set it up is to have starches at the front, then toppings, and meats and guacamole at the very end. Basically the most "prized" ingredients should be at the end because as people fill up their plates they are more likely to overfill their plates at the beginning when their plates are empty. If you have meats near the front, you will more than likely run into shortages unless you order extra.

What goes well with a taco bar?

Chips and salsa, churros, and salads are all great additions to a taco bar! It also never hurts to include more guacamole since that will run out quickly!

How many tacos are recommended per person?

We recommend 3 tacos per person (at the very least 2)! It ultimately depends on the size of the tacos and what other sides you have (if you have rice and beans, chips, etc.), but a taco bar should typically account for 2-3 per guest.
